Anthony A. Williams, the former Mayor of Washington, D.C., has joined
the company's Government Practice as Executive Director. Mayor Williams
will be based out of CEB's headquarters in Arlington, Virginia.
Mayor Williams brings with him extensive expertise and a proven track
record in the public and private sectors, and will play an instrumental
role in further developing and providing strategic guidance to the
practice's current roster of clients, which includes more than 400
senior-level federal, state and municipal government executives in the
U.S. and abroad.
Mayor Williams, who is widely credited for restoring the capital's
finances during his two terms in office, is a natural extension for
CEB's Government Practice, which is committed to improving citizens'
lives around the world by supporting governments both on federal and
local levels. CEB's Government Practice delivers analytical tools,
best-practice research and data, and collective peer insights so that
government executives and entities can make more informed business
decisions around existing and potential trends and/or risks.

In addition to his new role at CEB, Mayor Williams will continue to
serve as Director of the State & Municipal Practice at Arent Fox LLP in
Washington, DC, as well as the William H. Bloomberg Lecturer in Public
Management at Harvard University's JFK School for Public Service.
Previously, Mayor Williams served two terms as the fourth mayor of D.C.,
from 1999 to 2007, where he was successful in improving the overall
performance of government agencies, all while lowering taxes and
investing in infrastructure and human services.
Before his election, he was the independent chief financial officer of
D.C. from 1995 to 1998, working with and on behalf of local officials,
the D.C. Financial Control Board, and the U.S. Congress. Mayor Williams
has also held numerous positions in federal, state, and local
government, including being named the first CFO for the U.S. Department
of Agriculture by former President Bill Clinton. In this capacity, he
was a founding member and Vice-Chairman of the U.S. CFO Council.

Mayor Williams holds a B.A., magna cum laude, from Yale, an
M.P.P. from the Harvard Kennedy School and a J.D. from the Harvard Law
School, as well as numerous honorary degrees and awards, including Governing
Magazine's Public Official of the Year in 1997. He is a fellow of
the National Academy of Public Administration and former President of
the National League of Cities.
