Corporate Executive Board Names Former Mayor Anthony A. Williams Executive Director of Government Practice
Continues Expansion of Its Thriving Government Business Unit
ARLINGTON, Va., Jan 12, 2010 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Corporate Executive Board (NASDAQ: EXBD) (CEB) today announced that Anthony A. Williams, the former Mayor of Washington, D.C., has joined the company's Government Practice as Executive Director. Mayor Williams will be based out of CEB's headquarters in Arlington, Virginia.

Mayor Williams brings with him extensive expertise and a proven track record in the public and private sectors, and will play an instrumental role in further developing and providing strategic guidance to the practice's current roster of clients, which includes more than 400 senior-level federal, state and municipal government executives in the U.S. and abroad.

Mayor Williams, who is widely credited for restoring the capital's finances during his two terms in office, is a natural extension for CEB's Government Practice, which is committed to improving citizens' lives around the world by supporting governments both on federal and local levels. CEB's Government Practice delivers analytical tools, best-practice research and data, and collective peer insights so that government executives and entities can make more informed business decisions around existing and potential trends and/or risks.

"We are extremely excited about Mayor Williams joining our fast-growing Government Practice. At this critical juncture in public finance, our members can benefit greatly from his past experience and successful strategies, as those are the same executives that our practice serves," said Tom Monahan, Chief Executive Officer of The Corporate Executive Board. "This strategic expansion exemplifies CEB's commitment to bridge the ascending desire of private clients to collaborate with government agencies around the world. Undoubtedly, our large base of government clients will benefit from his ability to develop and execute municipal finance and public sector innovations and solutions."

In addition to his new role at CEB, Mayor Williams will continue to serve as Director of the State & Municipal Practice at Arent Fox LLP in Washington, DC, as well as the William H. Bloomberg Lecturer in Public Management at Harvard University's JFK School for Public Service.

Previously, Mayor Williams served two terms as the fourth mayor of D.C., from 1999 to 2007, where he was successful in improving the overall performance of government agencies, all while lowering taxes and investing in infrastructure and human services.

Before his election, he was the independent chief financial officer of D.C. from 1995 to 1998, working with and on behalf of local officials, the D.C. Financial Control Board, and the U.S. Congress. Mayor Williams has also held numerous positions in federal, state, and local government, including being named the first CFO for the U.S. Department of Agriculture by former President Bill Clinton. In this capacity, he was a founding member and Vice-Chairman of the U.S. CFO Council.

"Public sector executives are at a crossroads and are facing increased scrutiny by the day," said Mayor Williams. "I'm delighted to join the Corporate Executive Board to provide guidance for their broad base of government clients. By better informing government and corporate executives' decision-making, we can ensure efficient service delivery to citizen stakeholders while being mindful to fiscal constraints," said Mayor Williams. "Combining the collective expertise of government leaders and CEB's unique ability to identify the best proven solutions to their issues, we can also directly improve people's lives."

Mayor Williams also recently accepted an invitation to join the Bipartisan Policy Center's (BPC) Debt Reduction Task Force, whose mission is to develop and promote a politically viable solution for reversing the United States' fiscal issues and rise in public debt.

Mayor Williams holds a B.A., magna cum laude, from Yale, an M.P.P. from the Harvard Kennedy School and a J.D. from the Harvard Law School, as well as numerous honorary degrees and awards, including Governing Magazine's Public Official of the Year in 1997. He is a fellow of the National Academy of Public Administration and former President of the National League of Cities.
